Action for Climate and Environment
Newburgh - Aberdeenshire
Inspiring Our Community to Flourish in Harmony with Nature
Action for Climate and Environment Newburgh (ACE Newburgh) began in 2020 as an informal subgroup of the Newburgh Village Hall Committee, following a successful Climate Challenge Fund application to retrofit and upgrade the hall. Since then, it has grown into a constituted organisation and became a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) in September 2024.
ACE Newburgh is a volunteer-led, member-based organisation governed by a Board of Trustees elected by the membership. The “How to Get Involved” section offers more details on participation opportunities.
Our Vision
To inspire our community* to flourish in harmony with nature.
We work towards this vision by:
• Providing a community hub for accessible information and resources about climate change and environmental action.
• Researching and delivering local initiatives to reduce CO₂ emissions and enhance the local environment.
• Collaborating with other groups at local, national, and international levels to contribute to the global sustainability movement.
Our key focus areas are:
• Biodiversity and Habitat.
• Waste Reduction and Pollution Prevention.
• Climate and Energy Action.
*Our community covers the whole of the Foveran Community Council area. (See map below)
Our Events and Activities
ACE Newburgh has led a wide range of free community projects in and around Newburgh, offering opportunities for people of all ages to get involved. Highlights include:
• Creating a “wee wood” on parkland off Eider Road
• Planting and maintaining a perennial flower and herb patch for pollinators near the A975
• Organising local litter picks and beach cleans
• Planting trees and hedges and installing wildlife boxes
• Maintaining and surveying planted areas through regular strimming and weeding
• Sharing a “12 Books of Christmas” list of environmental reads
• Hosting evening talks aligned with our key focus areas
• Creating social media content to promote initiatives like RSPB’s Big Garden Bird Watch, local ranger events, and No Mow May
• Hosting a family-friendly pitch at the Newburgh Gala with fun activities and local info
All our volunteer events have taken place in or near Newburgh, but we’re keen to support similar efforts across the wider Foveran Community Council area.
If you have ideas or would like our help, please see the “How to Get Involved” section for more information.
Future plans
1. Foveran Burn Project – Establish a working group to explore long-term restoration of the Foveran Burn.
2. Repair Café – Collaborate with local groups to launch a Repair Café.
3. Little Free Libraries / Book Exchange – Launch community book-sharing boxes.
